How this estimate works.

The calculator runs 4 steps, each shown here so you can check the sum or redo it with your own figures.

  1. Step 1: Clicks

Monthly budget ÷ average cost per click

The calculator uses the middle of a set cost-per-click range for the industry you pick.

  2. Step 2: Enquiries

    Clicks × conversion rate

A set conversion rate for your industry: the share of clicks that call or send a form.

  3. Step 3: Cost per enquiry

    Monthly budget ÷ enquiries

What each call or form costs you in ad spend alone.

  4. Step 4: Return on ad spend

    (Enquiries × $500) ÷ monthly budget

It counts every enquiry as a $500 job. Add your own job value and close rate in the marketing ROI calculator. Open the marketing ROI calculator.

Cost per click in Australia, from an account I manage.

Google prices each click in an auction every time someone searches. Your bid, your ad's relevance and your landing page experience together decide where your ad shows, and you often pay less than your maximum bid.

Here's a real reference. Pro Roof and Gutter, a roofing business in Elizabeth South in northern Adelaide, paid these average click prices over the 30 days to 17 July 2026. It's 1 account in 1 trade, so read it as a reference point.

CampaignAverage cost per click
Roof replacement (Search)$18.72
Gutter replacement (Search)$13.16

Source: Pro Roof and Gutter's Google Ads account, 30 days to 17 July 2026.

To see prices for your own keywords, open Keyword Planner inside Google Ads, enter your main services and set your location. The “Top of page bid” low and high range columns show what advertisers have paid to appear at the top for each search.

If you run a trade with high-value jobs, compare the calculator's result with the worked example below, which uses a $15 click.

A worked example for a trade business.

Here's the same maths by hand for a trade with a $1,500 monthly ad budget and a $15 average click. The conversion and close rates are example figures, so swap in your own.

Clicks

$1,500 ÷ $15

100 clicks a month

Enquiries

100 × 1 in 10

10 enquiries, at $150 each

Jobs won

10 × 3 in 10

3 jobs, at $500 of ad spend each

All-in cost

$1,500 + $800 management

$2,300 before GST, about $767 per job won

So each job needs to return more than about $767 in gross profit for the month to pay its way. A better close rate, or a landing page that turns more clicks into calls, moves that line in your favour.

Every service I advertise gets its own landing page, 1 per campaign. Here's how I build landing pages that convert.

Is $10 a day enough for Google Ads?

$10 a day comes to about $304 a month, because Google caps your monthly spend at your daily budget times 30.4, the average number of days in a month.

At the $13.16 to $18.72 average clicks on Pro Roof and Gutter's account, $304 buys about 16 to 23 clicks a month. That's 1 roofing account, so check your own trade's prices in Keyword Planner. A small budget works best kept narrow:

  • 1 service, the one with your best job value
  • The suburbs you most want work from
  • Exact-match keywords, so each click closely matches your service
  • A landing page for that service, with your phone number at the top

Once enquiries are coming in from that service, add the next one.

Ad spend and my management fee are separate.

Your ad spend goes straight to Google, on your card, in an account you own. You set the budget and can change it whenever you like. The calculator above works on this number alone.

My Google Ads management is $800+GST a month on top of that, month to month. It covers the campaign build, keywords and ads, conversion tracking, SMS lead alerts and a landing page for every service I advertise, all done by me. For the full picture, read what Google Ads costs in Australia.

Questions about Google Ads costs.

How accurate is this Google Ads cost calculator?
It gives you a starting estimate. It uses a set cost-per-click range and conversion rate for each industry, the same for every city, and it can't see your Quality Score, your competitors' bids or your landing page. Keyword Planner and your own account give you real figures, and I'm happy to run them with you on a free strategy call.
What budget should I start with?
Work backwards from the enquiries you want. Divide them by your conversion rate to get the clicks you need, then multiply by your cost per click. Start with 1 service and the suburbs you most want work from, and add more once the enquiries are coming in. You set the budget and can change it at any time.
How much do Google Ads cost in Australia?
You pay Google for each click, at a price set in an auction for every search, plus a management fee if someone runs the account for you. Mine is $800+GST a month on top of your ad spend. The full breakdown is on my page on what Google Ads costs in Australia.
What is ROAS?
Return on ad spend: the revenue your ads bring in, divided by what you spent on them. A ROAS of 5x means $5 in revenue for every $1 of ad spend. A healthy ROAS depends on your margins and the value of each job, so the target is worked out from your own numbers.
Can I get an exact estimate for my business?
Yes. On a free strategy call I look at your services, suburbs and keywords and work out the clicks, enquiries and cost per enquiry your budget could buy. If you already run ads, the free Google Ads account review works from your real numbers instead.
