Keyword cannibalisation
Keyword cannibalisation is when several pages on your own site target the same search and end up competing with each other.
Google picks 1 of them to rank and often keeps changing its mind, so the position moves around week to week.
The strength that should sit behind 1 strong page is spread across 3 partial ones.
It builds up naturally over years as blog posts and service pages accumulate and nobody audits the overlap.
You spot it in Search Console by finding 1 search term with clicks split across multiple URLs.
The fix is usually to merge the pages into the strongest one and redirect the others, keeping the useful parts of each.
Sometimes the answer is to genuinely differentiate them instead, if the searches behind them turn out to want different things.
What this means for you
Merging 3 mediocre pages into 1 good one normally lifts the result. Adding a 4th page on the same subject normally does not.
This one sits under SEO.
